Arena Theatre

Traffic hums right outside along Southwest Freeway as you shuffle up to the concrete doors of the venue. The line crawls past security while heavy bass from a soundcheck rattles the glass panels overhead. You aren't dealing with any downtown parking hassle here because a massive paved lot sits right out front. A gruff door guy checks your paper ticket stub with a bored nod and waves you through into the dim lobby.

Step inside and you'll notice this isn't your standard box-shaped hall. It's a legendary circular theater in the round where the whole center stage actually rotates on a hidden mechanical track. You've got rows packed tightly in concentric circles all the way around the performance space. There's no hiding from the band here since you're staring right across the room at total strangers in the opposite rows. Overhead fixtures buzz low before dropping to absolute blackness right as the guitar chords start.

Drinks pour fast from small mobile bar carts stationed along the carpeted walkways while plastic cups clink against sticky metal armrests. A guy two rows down drops his lighter right under the aisle seat leg.
